  • Government: Official statistics, reports
  • News: Reporting from reputable outlets
  • Expert: Statements from credible authorities
  • Primary: Original documents, data
3

Identify potential sources:

For each source, evaluate:

  • Authority: Is this a credible source on this topic?
  • Accuracy: Is the information current and correct?
  • Purpose: Is there potential bias?
  • Relevance: Does it directly support the claim?

Prioritize:

  • Primary sources over secondary
  • Peer-reviewed over non-reviewed
  • Recent over outdated
  • Authoritative over general
4

Present sources with citations:

For each source provide:

  • Full citation (author, title, publication, date, URL if available)
  • Key quote or finding that supports the claim
  • Credibility assessment
  • Any caveats or limitations

Note if:

  • Sources conflict with each other
  • The claim is stronger or weaker than sources support
  • Additional research would strengthen the case
